A.听FACULTY OF ARTS REQUIREMENTS
Students must adhere to the applicable Faculty of Arts requirements in 3.4 Graduation.
B.听MAJOR-FIELD REQUIREMENTS
Students must successfully complete a minimum of 8.0 and a maximum of 10.0 full-course equivalents in the Field of Religious Studies while fulfilling the following requirements:
1.听Western and Eastern Religions: 2.0 full-course equivalents from the 鈥淲estern Religions鈥 Stream and 2.0 full-course equivalents from the 鈥淓astern Religions鈥 Stream with at least 0.5 full-course equivalents from one of these two streams at the 400 level or above. (See the Field of Religious Studies.)
2.听Nature of Religion: 2.0 full-course equivalents from the 鈥淣ature of Religions鈥 Stream including at least 0.5 full-course equivalents from Religious Studies 437 and 447.
3.听Research Methods: Religious Studies 377.
4.听Religious Studies Options: an additional 1.5 full-course equivalents in Religious Studies.
5.听Upper-Level Courses: At least 2.0 full-course equivalents in the Field of Religious Studies, inclusive of the courses used to fulfill Requirements 1-4, must be at the 400 level or above.
C.听OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Language Requirement: 1.0 full-course equivalent in a language other than English.
D.听DEGREE OPTIONS
The BA in Religious Studies can be taken with Cooperative Education.听 See section 3.4.5 Co-operative Education Programs for information and requirements.
Notes:
- Religious Studies 203, 205 and either 201 or 273 are recommended.
- When Religious Studies 577 is taken, the topic chosen for the Senior Project will determine the stream in which it will be counted.
- Students are strongly advised to include in their programs relevant language courses (e.g., Classical Hebrew, Greek, Latin, Arabic, Sanskrit, Tibetan, Classical Chinese, Japanese, French, German) and relevant courses from other disciplines. Language courses related to a student's program of study in Religious Studies taken from inside the Department can be counted as part of the eight full-course equivalents in Religious Studies. With the approval of the Undergraduate Director, Language courses related to a student's program of study from other departments may also be counted toward the Major-Field requirements.
- Early in their programs, students should consult with the Undergraduate Director in the Department of Religious Studies for guidance in selecting both required Religious Studies courses and appropriate courses from other disciplines.
- In planning their programs, students should bear in mind that language courses and some senior courses are not offered every year.
